VS Code

Use the Claude Code extension for VS Code with OneProvider: add the endpoint and key to settings.json, restart, skip the sign-in prompt and test it.

The Claude Code VS Code extension reads env from a settings.json next to your home directory. Drop in OneProvider's endpoint + key and restart.

Press “Issue a key”, give it a name (for example, this client) and a spend limit, and copy the key. You top up the balance in the same place. More about the cabinet and keys .

Install

Search for “Claude Code” in the VS Code Marketplace (publisher anthropic.claude-code) and install it. The extension ships its own runtime — no separate CLI install needed for the editor surface.

Configure

Create a settings.json in the OS-specific path below. The extension reads this file on startup and uses the env block for every outbound request.

Path: ~/.claude/settings.json

json
{
"env": {
"ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL": "https://api.oneprovider.dev",
"ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN": "sk-your-key-here",
"CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_NONESSENTIAL_TRAFFIC": "1",
"CLAUDE_CODE_ATTRIBUTION_HEADER": "0"
}
}

Create the file if it doesn’t exist, then fully restart VS Code so the new env block is loaded.

If the extension asks you to sign in

The extension checks credentials before it starts and may show a sign-in screen if you have no Claude account. The reliable fix is to set the address and key in VS Code’s own user settings: open the Command Palette ( ⌘⇧P / Ctrl+Shift+P ) → Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON) and add (the same on macOS, Linux, and Windows):

json
{
"claudeCode.disableLoginPrompt": true,
"claudeCode.environmentVariables": [
{ "name": "ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL", "value": "https://api.oneprovider.dev" },
{ "name": "ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN", "value": "sk-your-key-here" }
]
}

Restart VS Code. A OneProvider key works both as ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN (Bearer) and as ANTHROPIC_API_KEY.

Verify

Open the Claude Code panel ( ⌘⇧P / Ctrl+Shift+P → Claude Code: Focus), type ping, send. A response within a few seconds confirms the endpoint override is live.

CLI vs extension The Claude Code CLI and this extension share the same settings file — configure one and both pick it up.

Which model to choose

The extension runs the same Claude Code engine, so pick models the same way. Keep claude-sonnet-5-5 as the default for daily edits, switch to claude-opus-5-5 for large refactors, and use claude-haiku-5-5 for cheap, fast questions. Change the model with /model in the panel. Ids and rates are on the models page and the pricing page ; a spend limit on the key keeps the bill predictable.

Common errors and fixes

The extension shows a sign-in screen

The extension checks credentials before it starts. Add claudeCode.disableLoginPrompt and the claudeCode.environmentVariables block from the section above to your VS Code user settings (JSON), then restart VS Code completely.

401 Invalid API key

The value has a stray quote or space, or a foreign ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN from another service overrides your key. Set the whole OneProvider key without quotes in one place only.

404 or a wrong endpoint

The base URL is https://api.oneprovider.dev without /v1. The extension appends the path itself.

Nothing changed after editing the settings

Fully quit VS Code (not just reload the window) so the new env block is loaded. In a Remote-SSH, WSL or dev-container window the extension usually reads the settings on the remote side, so put them there.

Streams cut off

Disable VPN or VLESS proxies on the machine that runs the extension: they buffer SSE and break HTTP/2.

FAQ

Do I need the Claude Code CLI as well?

No. The extension ships its own runtime. If you also use the CLI, both read the same ~/.claude/settings.json, see Claude Code .

Do I need a Claude subscription?

No, the OneProvider key is enough.

Which key format does it accept?

The raw sk-… key as ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN (Bearer) or ANTHROPIC_API_KEY.

Where do I see the cost?

In the dashboard Usage page of the key. Add a spend limit when you issue the key.

Quick answers

Which base URL do I use?

Claude Code and Anthropic SDKs use https://api.oneprovider.dev. OpenAI SDKs and OpenAI-compatible clients use https://api.oneprovider.dev/v1. One key works behind both; the model list is on the models page ; rates are on the pricing page .

How do I authenticate?

Send the raw sk-… key in x-api-key or Authorization: Bearer: one of them, never both. Keep the key in an environment variable, not in a file that gets committed. More on authentication .

Where do I get a key?

Open your cabinet in the Telegram bot @oneprovider_robot or at app.oneprovider.dev, top up the balance and press “Issue a key”. Each key can carry its own spend limit. Cabinet & API keys .

What do 401, 404 and 429 mean?

401: the key is missing, mistyped or sent in the wrong header; paste the whole key without quotes or spaces. 404: usually a wrong base URL, for example a missing or doubled /v1. 429 with “Insufficient balance”: the cabinet balance or the key’s spend limit is used up, so top up instead of retrying; any other 429 is a rate limit, so wait for Retry-After. Details: error codes and troubleshooting .

Why do streams cut off or reset?

VPN and VLESS proxies often buffer SSE or break HTTP/2 negotiation. OneProvider has no regional restrictions and does not buffer streams, so turn the proxy off and retry.

Where do I ask if this is not enough?

Message @Oneproviderhelpbot on Telegram or open “Support” in the web cabinet, with the HTTP status code and the exact error message. How support works .
